The Maturation of Golf Balls
An evolution of hundreds of years must surely take out some of the finest technologies to produce the golf balls we now have.
1600's is the mark of the beginnings of golfing. And from that time on, the sport have taken revolutionary changes along with the evolution of the balls. From woods to balata to sophisticated balls (which by the way or scientifically engineered), there certainly must be some great changes that sparred the development of these golf balls.
Simply because the technology and the availability of the material dictate what ball can be made, golfers first used wood to make golf balls, which were more prevalent in Scotland- considered to be the hometown of golfing.
Because of the urge for better game and innovation, man discovered the use of goose feathers for golf balls. The featherie this time is covered with leather to make a sturdy feather ball. This easily rose to popularity and in effect, replaced wooden balls.
However, soon after the development of the featheries came the gutta-percha balls. Gutties (a more popular term for gutta-percha) were basically crafted from a form of latex found only in Gutta trees, became more popular in its own time since it features low-cost production and versatility. This is because once the ball is chipped, the golfer can easily reheat the ball and make a new ball out of the previous one.
While this type of ball featured great advancements, man still did not content himself and made more balls out of his own limits. Now, there are high-tech balls that have greatly increased the quality of a golfer's games in the field. Superbly constructed and engineered, present day golf balls offer not only style but also better performance.
A few years back, there were only two forms of popular golf balls and the market is still not too receptive with the used golf ball industry. Because of mass production, golf balls became easily accessible even for those who have not much to pour out for such an expensive game. That still is the case for now, however with a few changes in golf ball industry, prices vary from premium to low cost. And this issue seriously deals with "what you pay for is what you get" philosophy.
Because there simply are broad selections of golf balls, one needs to know what truly makes up the ball and what type of ball is proper for one's gaming capacities.
There are basically three forms of golf balls: control, distance and spin golf balls. Though they may appear to be more or less identical, one needs to truly recognized what attributes make a golf ball different from another.
Technology has crept in deeply into the golf ball making industry. From the external structures (the dimples, size and the roundness) to the chemistry that constitute its inner parts, science has truly innovated balls which make it a bit more unrecognizable against the balls' ancestors. If not only for their basic appearance and general function, ordinary people may not have recognized what ball a golf ball is- and that only pertains to external structure.
Looking on its inner part, one may be totally overwhelmed by the chemistry that has significantly changed the balls' inner appearance. Imagine looking at a wood ball and quickly change your focus on a multi-metal ball. Excluding the fact that some balls are even exposed to gamma rays and other forms of radiation just to enhance its game capacity.
These currently are the changes. And there are more that may surface in the nearest future. Let us just wait and see what else technology may offer.
