The Batmobile and Beyond: Fast Cars of the Silver Screen
We have all admired different makes of movie cars. We have often thought of how it must feel like to drive a fast cars of our own.
Movie cars, however, are not just fast cars… they’re fast cars with different gizmos and gadgets that can cause a guy’s eyes to pop (or a top-secret terrorist nuclear facility to explode).
Here are some of the most recognizable fast cars of the movies:
1. 1989 Batmobile – this fast car was featured in two movies. It may be the most recognizable car in the history of the movies.
Also known as the “Keaton Batmobile”, this fast car was featured in the movies “Batman” and “Batman Begins”.
Powered by a jet turbine, this baby has 1500 lbs. of thrust behind it. It has an acceleration of 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds. Now that is a fast car.
It is voice controlled, features two submachine guns, a bomb, grappling hooks, retractable shields, a kick-ass bomb deployment system, and countless other gizmos and gadgets.
Made with the latest materials, this fast car was designed to be the ultimate in the word car.
After all, it had to be, in order to catch the crooks.
2. Back to the future DeLorean – this is a wicked cool fast car. Modified in different “Back to the future” movies, sometimes it has a futuristic cold-fusion engine, sometimes an engine powered by plutonium (obtained from certain unsavory connections) and one time by a steam engine.
This car has also been modified to enable it to fly.
One thing that has remained constant with this car, though, is the “flux capacitor” that enables it to travel through time.
Time travel, of course, is a very confusing and complicated matter, but this car does it so well, that you are only confused for a couple of times.
If you plan to travel through time, you’ll need a pretty fast car, and the DeLorean is what you need.
3. ECTO-1 – this fast car is used in the “ghostbusters” movie. Also known as the ectomobile, this modified ambulance/hearse has a distinctive siren.
Though this car has been modified to include announcement boards in the second movie, the distinctive designs pretty much stay the same, even in the various animated series.
Various gadgets are placed on top of this fast car, but the uses for these are not shown in the movies.
The car is also modified to make suiting up easier for the ghostbusters.
All in all, this fast car is designed specially to chase the impossible: ghosts.
4. The mystery machine – this funky fast car is suited to the needs of Mystery Inc. (Those meddling kids with Scooby-doo)
This van is bought with daphne’s cash, but all the members of Mystery Inc. helped to make it the machine it is. Velma added various detective equipment, Fred restored it, and Shaggy and Scooby decorated it.
The van features a VW bus front, A Citroen body, and a Chevrolette Rear. Now that is distinctive!
Spacious enough to carry more than 5 people plus a lot of heavy equipment and computers, the mystery machine is suited for every meddling kid’s requirement.
These are just some of the most recognizable fast cars of the movies. Some, of course, have evolved with each movie, but the original still remains within the minds of the people.
