My brother-in-law says there's no such thing as French fries. It's the Belgians who invented it. In fact, the French crack a lot of jokes about how the Belgians eat too many fries. According to some friends, Belgian fries are unique because they are fried twice. I was able to try these fries in a bazaar recently. The outside is crisp, while the inside is crumbly. [more]

Thank you Mandy and Diane (not Ackerman), for this wonderful book. While it tackles topics that are usually discussed in neuroscience or psychology fields, Diane Ackerman presents it in a more lyrical manner. Some have called it literary non-fiction. [more]
