Emily Tan is Viva Vertical's head of training and development and Aerial Arts Program Designer.

She was invited by Ms. Dinglasan to certify the pole-dancing instructors of Movement Dance Studio.

Is this for women only?

Well... you see both men and women gymnasts, right? And some guys have also taken up pole-dancing. Plus, some of the members of the Cirque du Soleil who engage in aerial art (aerial silk) are men.

I still wonder, though, if they will have mixed-classes or if they will hold men-only or women-only classes. It will most like depend on the demand for this type of class.

Is Aerial Silk harder than Pole-Dancing classes?

Unlike pole-dancing (where there is a fixed, rigid, non-moving pole), you work with flexible silk ropes.

This means that aside from having to lift at least half of your body weight, you will also need to keep the silk steady while you hold your pose.

Please take note that there is a risk that you will fall to the floor. That's why they make use of special padding on the floor. It's similar to the mats used by gymnasts.

But don't worry, you will be trained and taught well, so that as you gradually increase your strength, you can take it up higher into the air.

Besides, you'll be handled by trained and certified professionals.

Viva Vertical is based in Malaysia, and is one of Asia's leading academies which provide instructor certification recognized by the Asian Academy for Sports Fitness Professionals, Aerial Arts Association and International Pole Dance Fitness Association.

You don't need to fly to Malaysia, though, because Aerial Silk is coming to the Philippines soon!

Please remember to first consult with your professional healthcare provider before you enroll in aerial silk classes in the Philippines, ok?

So if you're looking for something more challenging than pole-dancing, if you're looking for a new way to strengthen not just your arms and legs but also your core, and if you want to take even your "zero workout experience" and build strength and flexibility up in the air, then try aerial silk today!
