Philippine Acupuncture Practitioner: Joan Javellana Ottao

I was looking for acupuncture practitioners in the Philippines last week, and today I had a session with Dr. Joan Javellana Ottao at the Center for Wellness and Aesthetics at The Medical City.

After an interview on one's medical history, plus a bit of TCM tongue analysis, Dr. Ottao recommended the improvement of the coordination among the kidneys, lungs, and digestive system.

This time, I lay on my back as needles were inserted near my wrists, above my stomach, outer part of the leg near my knees, near my ankles, and near my big toes.

Perhaps there was some imbalance in my qi because when the needles were inserted in some points on my left side, there was a brief electrical zapping sensation. The corresponding points on my right side only felt "heavy" (no zapping feeling).

The needles were kept inserted for about 30 minutes, and I was advised not to drink anything cold, nor wet any of the points where the needles were inserted, for the next two hours.

It is quite fascinating, and if you're interested in reducing stress or creating more harmony and balance in your mind and body, try acupuncture in the Philippines.
