Full name: Virginia Mercado Villanueva

September 2, 1939: Born in Jolo, Sulu, Philippines

1961: Graduated from the University of the Philippines with a degree of Doctor of Medicine

19??: Married a doctor from Masbate, Dr. Oscar Villanueva.

2001: Graduate Studies of the University of the Philippines (pursued a master's degree in Creative Writing)

February 2004: Awarded the National Commission on Culture and the Arts' (NCAA) Writers' Prize 2003 for her children's stories compiled under the title "Stories from the South".

March 2004: Won third prize for her entry in the Creative Nonfiction category and first honorable mention in the Children's Story category in UP's Amelia Lapeņa-Bonifacio Literary Contest.

(I found the above in the Bionotes section, page 95, of the "Nine Supernatural Stories" book, which contains additional info about her parents and her medical practice. Dr. Villanueva's Sea Change is included in that Supernatural anthology.)
