Effective Online Video

If you want to make effective use of video online, keep it short.

Jakob Nielsen says that talking head video is boring online, and that you should keep it under a minute long. Otherwise, your viewers will just get distracted by things outside the video, or by things in the video background.

Here's a site that makes effective use of video online:

It's effective because the process of how to tie a particular knot is broken down into several steps. Each step is a short (less than 5-second) video. And let's face it: showing how to tie a knot is better than lecturing on it, right? Just the same, you'll find instructions in text.

I wonder how this will affect vbloggers or videobloggers.... :-)
