Wanted: New Tagalog Poets

LIRA is looking for poets who wish to join the poetry workshop (Tagalog). The workshop will run from June to July 2005, Saturdays and Sundays, at the CAL New Building in UP Diliman.

LIRA was established in 1985 by National Artist for Literature Virgilion S. Almario (better known as Rio Alma). LIRA is an organization of poets who craft poems in Filipino, and it takes pride in its annual poetry worskhop which helps mould the top poets and writers of our time.

Some of the writers produced by the two-decade tradition of writing excellence of LIRA are the following members: Roberto T. Añonuevo and Romulo P. Baquiran, Jr., poets from Bicol and prolific authors; Rebecca T. Añonuevo, award-winning poet, critic and educator at the Miriam College; Vim Nadera, performance artist and current Director of the UP Institute of Creative Writing; Nicolas Pichay, attorney and awardee of the Centennial Literary Prize; Ariel Dim. Borlongan, Poet of the Year; Michael Coroza, educator at the Ateneo de Manila University and publisher; at si Edgar Samar, current president of LIRA who also teaches at the ADMU, and is also of writer of Children's literature.

Para sa taong ito, muling naghahanap ang Linangan sa Imahen, Retorika at Anyo (LIRA) ng mga bagong fellow na mapapabilang sa poetry workshop o palihan sa pagtula.

Itinatag noong 1985 ang LIRA ng Pambansang Alagad ng Sining para sa Panitikan Virgilio S. Almario, kilala sa mundo ng panitikan bilang Rio Alma. Ipinagmamalaki ng LIRA, isang organisasyon ng mga makatang nagsusulat sa wikang Filipino, ang taunang palihang humubog sa mga premyadong makata at manunulat ng ating panahon.

Kabilang sa 20-taong tradisyon ng kahusayan ng LIRA ang kanilang miyembrong sina: Roberto T. Añonuevo at Romulo P. Baquiran, Jr., mga makatang Oragon at prolipikong awtor; Rebecca T. Añonuevo, premyadong makata, kritiko at guro sa Miriam College; Vim Nadera, performance artist at kasalukuyang direktor ng UP Institute of Creative Writing; Nicolas Pichay, abogado at awardee ng Centennial Literary Prize; Ariel Dim. Borlongan, mamamahayag at naging Makata ng Taon; Michael Coroza, guro sa Ateneo de Manila University at pabliser; at si Edgar Samar, kasalukuyang pangulo ng LIRA na nagtuturo rin sa ADMU at manunulat ng mga akdang pambata.

Ang palihan o workshop para sa taong ito ay binubuo ng mga lecture ng mga respetadong makata at manunulat, pagsuri at pagbasa ng mga tula. Isa sa mga paksang tatalakayin ay ang mayamang tradisyon ng panulaang Filipino. Ang palihan ay gaganapin mula Hunyo hanggang Hulyo 2005, tuwing Sabado at Linggo sa CAL New Building, UP Diliman.
