This has nothing to do with what most employees expect this time of year. Don't you notice that more people have been getting sick or dying lately? If you had a choice, up to how old would you want to live? [more]

At about this time of year, most kids would probably make an effort to behave. Credit this to all those moms and dads who remind their kids that Santa will only bring toys to good girls and boys. [more]

In a mass for my uncle who recently passed away, Fr. Orbos, in his sermon, tried to guess what my uncle might be saying right that moment if he had the chance. He enumerated three:

1. Don't worry - I have gone on to a better place where there are no more problems, no more tears.

2. Thank you - for all the concern and for all the love you shared while I was alive.

3. See you in heaven - we must all live our lives according to the will of God, so that we will be together some day with our loved ones who have gone ahead. [more]

It will be advent in just a few days and in the Philippines, the start of the Christmas season means only one thing: family reunions. It will be a time to get together everyone in the family, hanging around for good food and conversation. There goes the diet. [more]

Gusto niyo bang maging pangulo ng Pilipinas? Sa dami ng problema dito, hindi siguro. Puwera na lang kung ikaw ay isang politiko. [more]

Last Saturday, we went to see Repertory Philippines' staging of the musical, The Secret Garden. When I bought tickets, I asked the person at the ticket counter if she thought my 5-year old son would enjoy it, considering it was not children's theater. She responded by saying that the songs were nice, there were kids in the musical and if my kid enjoyed Cinderella, he'd like this too. [more]

In the children's book, "Are We There Yet?" Zoe, a Sesame Street character is shown to be taking a pretty long car trip. In one portion, she exclaims: "I am bored, bored, bored."

Looking around how things are in this world, there is much cause for worry. I was making this comment to my husband the other night and he replied by reminding me about prayer and faith. [more]

At dinner last night, Adi was talking about Scooby Doo. As is his usual practice, he asks me questions from time to time, even if he knows the answer. I guess that's his way of testing his mom. [more]

Last week, I brought home some marketing folders from my office as I planned to go straight to my meeting the next morning. I mindlessly put the folders on top of my son's study desk and proceeded to take dinner.

In a little over a month, Christmas will be here! My son, Adi, as usual, is super-excited. He has already made it known that he wants a Shrek Toy from Santa. His Daddy cooperated and wrote this letter:

Dear Santa,

Adi is a good boy. He obeys his Daddy and his Mommy. Please give him a Shrek Toy.

PS (from Adi - a drawing of a baseball bat - what for, I wouldn't know.) [more]

Have you ever given any thought to how you would want your death to be? Or your wake or funeral for that matter? Are you for cremation or would you want to be buried?

Pardon the topic but the weather is quite dreary and the whole country, I guess, is still reeling from the shock of Nida Blanca's death.

Actors and actresses come and go. Recently, more of them have gone. Most, however, were sick for some time, so their deaths didn't come as a surprise. But to die violently? For there to be so many unanswered questions as to who did it and why? [more]

For four Saturdays (3 hour sessions each) last month, together with about 14 other couples, we attended Prepared Childbirth Classes conducted by Chiqui Brosas-Hahn at the British School at Fort Boni. This was a refresher for us - since we had also attended similar classes 5 years ago, when I was pregnant with Adi. We wanted to brush up on our breathing techniques (which really help when you're laboring). The classes now are more interactive, more interesting (with props and newer/updated videos and all) so if you're expecting, are based in the Philippines, and want to try natural childbirth, you may want to consider attending the classes. If the saying "only the paranoid survive" is the least bit true, then we Filipinos must be champion survivors. Yesterday, a Luzon-wide black-out hit at about 5pm and lasted anywhere from three to four hours, depending on where you were and the first thing that most people thought of was that there probably was a coup. A relative of mine passed away this week and today was the schedule for his funeral. The mass this morning was particularly moving given the priest's sermon and moreso, because of the speech of my cousin's eldest son. [more]

No, this isn't about the movie. The last few movies I saw were largely for my kid: Shrek and Osmosis Jones. At the rate our weekends go, the next movie we'll probably see will be Monsters, Inc. or Harry Potter, whichever shows first. [more]
