Yesterday, we had the traditional annual trick or treat in our village. The kids, both young and not-so-young, donned their costumes, as they trekked to the clubhouse to enjoy some food and a prepared program. At about 4pm, it was off to the cars and the vans to go around the village to amass (judging from the volume of candy you take home, I guess this is the proper word to use) tooth-decay causing goodies. Oh well, it happens just once a year, anyway.

This greeting is a little early, I suppose. With Halloween parties and affairs, left and right, though, the occasion is a bit hard to overlook.

Recently, people we know have gotten seriously ill or have passed away. My parents, on their way to a wake, told my son Adi, that they would be going to the "patay" (the Tagalog word means dead). My son then replied by saying: "Why are you going to a wake? I had been to a wake before." My father just laughed and kidded my mom about not using the word "wake" in the first place.

This was the place our family meant to visit but never got around to doing just that. We had meant to go in 2002 but then the Abu Sayyaf incident happened. September 11 likewise came and tourism, world-wide, has since taken a dive.

This has been the longest that I have not written anything. I guess it has been one block, after the other and the days have just been so busy. Get-togethers with friends, weekend dates with our kid, weddings to attend, Sunday mass, Little Gym class, childbirth class, trips to the grocery. Sometimes, weekends really leave you feeling more "weakened," than rested.

For days now, we have been bombarded by news on Anthrax scares. The Philippines, not wanting to be left behind, has also started to panic about subscription letters sent by certain publications.

You've got to hand it to Mayor Mitra of Quezon who recently got caught escorting an ambulance filled with P1.0 billion worth of shabu. He honestly thought the ambulance contained electronics and not drugs. I always thought an ambulance was for sick patients, nothing else.

Finally, Adi's birthday weekend is over. I say weekend as we have practically been celebrating over the last three days. Come to think of it, 3 days would be a bit short as a celebration for 5 years of life.

Of course we're not referring to the website. You see, Adi had a deal with his lola (grandmother) that when he turns 5, he'll be giving up his lampin (cloth diaper which acts as some security blanket for him as he thumb sucks). Well, last night, Adi had a major triumph. He handed all his lampins to his lola for safekeeping and proceeded to sleep for the night.

Today is my beloved son Adi's 5th birthday. Time really flies fast. If my son were in college, he would have finished an Accounting course by now.

Have missed writing over the last two days. Have been feeling more tired in the afternoon and at night, with my tummy tightening quite often. My OB prescribed some medicine to help relax me - should my tummy feel too uncomfortable. I guess being pregnant now that I'm much older really is a different experience from the first. So, excuse me if I miss a day or two, every now and then.

I know of several couples, with kids, and about our age, who always jokingly say that most of the dates they go on these days would be trips to the grocery. I guess life really becomes so hectic for working couples that it can be quite difficult to squeeze in a purely romantic date or two. Though that shouldn't be an excuse for not trying or doing it at all.

Believe it or not, my cellphone is still not capable of texting. It's not even on, most of the time. A cellphone for me, is my way, of getting in touch with people, when I need to. Don't call me. I'll call you. That sort of stuff. Besides, you can always reach me via a landline or better yet, e-mail.

On some days, I am convinced, that if the Filipino gene were taken apart and studied closely, we would find strains of masochism. There seems to be something about us that hates lulls or periods of quiet. There always has to be something happening. Let me restate that, there always has to be something bad happening.

At 1 pm today, students at La Salle Greenhills were sent home. Tomorrow, there will be no classes. There has reportedly been an outbreak of respiratory/viral-type infections, characterized by high fever and nausea. Initial reports zeroed in on schools in the Pasig and Quezon City areas (e.g. Poveda, St. Paul's, Xavier, ICA) although reports this evening seem to say that even students in schools in Makati and Manila have also been affected.

Ever since I started this daily (well, mostly every day) habit of writing, there has been nothing to write about the usual long way. Frequent visitors to this site would be familiar with my previous articles and these were 1-2 page things. None of the two to three paragraph pieces you read today.
