If you haven't bought a copy of the August issue of Good Housekeeping yet - yup, the one with Ai-Ai de las Alas on the cover, get it. There's an article there by Leah Jose-Sebastian (don't know her personally) on how she stays sane and it's really well-written. The piece is witty and funny and most of all, it reminds us of one important thing - how we all need prayer and God to stay sane in this world.

The last I checked, there were twenty-four hours in a day. I have not had the chance to write in the last few days though as work and family (and homework) have kept the days full.

[Posted by Manuel] Angel wrote this piece three years ago, which was selected by the Board of Judges as one of the honorable mentions in the Ninoy Aquino Writing and Song Contest organized by HTA sa GMA (on DZBB, a local radio station) and Radyo Balintataw on DZRH through the auspices of EDSA People Power Commission, Spirit of Edsa, KKK, City of Manila, and DIALECT/UNESCO ITI-FACE Center.
The theme of the contest was: Ninoy's relevance in today's times. Awarding was last November 26,2000 (the contest was launched last August 21 while November 27 is Ninoy's birthday), during a live broadcast on DZBB's program, hosted by former Senator, and now, Isabela Congressman, Heherson Alvarez. Former president of the Philippines, Ms. Corazon C. Aquino, was the guest of honor for the awarding. The Board of Judges was chaired by Dr. Alejandro Roces.
Now on to Angel's "Worth" --

Tomorrow marks the 20th death anniversary of Ninoy Aquino. Twenty years have passed and looking about, I can only shake my head as I read about Ping Lacson's revelations about Mike Arroyo, Kuya Gringo and how he remains in hiding, etc., etc. Trillanes and company have finally shut up -- I suppose they don't want to keep on "yakking" which to me is a brilliant decision since the more I listen to them, the more I am turned off by what I hear.

My son Adi has started to learn how to bike. He hasn't succeeded yet - although I'm sure one of these days, he will. If he doesn't learn it, he'll survive. Take it from me, certified non-biker. At least, I can drive...

Read in an article written by Jim Paredes sometime ago that parents go through school as many times as they have kids plus one (which is the time that they actually went through school). I remember this every night as I help my son Adi go through his assignments. Peek into other homes and the scene is multiplied numerous times perhaps.

Want to enter a contest where P1.00 and a few minutes of your time can turn into P2,000 or even better, P5,000? You may want to join the Dalitext Contest sponsored by the National Commission on Culture and Arts (NCCA) and other organizations. All you have to do is to submit a dalit, via text to 0918-531-16-69. A dalit is a poem of 4 lines, each line composed of 8 syllables. Each line must rhyme (e.g. if one line ends in "o" or "it," all the lines must end with the same sound). Manuel has a sample somewhere in Second Thoughts.

Honk - The Ugly Duckling now shows at the Meralco Theater weekends - till early September. Ticket prices range from P350 (Balcony-side) to P850 (Orchestra center). We watched the musical last Saturday with Adi. Well, we still like Joseph the Dreamer the best of all the Trumpets productions we've seen - but it still is a good idea to bring the kids to this show if your calendar will allow it.
