Mary Ong, Rosebud, China Girl. A rose by any other name would still have thorns...for Ping Lacson and all the police who have been accused.

(Manuel continues to fill-in for Angel...) Adi whimpered himself to sleep last night. He really misses his mom. Yep, I miss her too, and I also sorely miss my voice which has now gone hoarse from saying: "Don't worry, she'll be home soon..."

This morning at mass, the priest said that people are social beings who need communication and communities to survive and to better understand themselves. Perhaps that's why some folks have turned to the web: for self-expression and to keep in touch with current and future friends.

This particular branch of Jollibee accidentally spilled pineapple juice on my son once. The busboy was in such a hurry to clear our table (though we weren't hurrying him up) that he hit a glass of unfinished juice and sent the liquid spilling all over my son's shorts. The crew member and the store manager did offer their apologies but we weren't in the mood anymore to order and eat. I even had to buy my son a new pair of shorts as we had other things to do in the mall.

When something worries me, I like talking things over with my close friends. It gets the load off my chest and somehow, things look better. I've also discovered that when I tell more people I know about some problems or irritations, I find more people telling me that they have included me and my family in their prayers.

When the Senate schedules a public hearing on this Ping Lacson case, someone in my family gets sick. Must be a reflection of how most people feel about all these developments. Things are getting to be quite sickening.

We missed the musical Little Mermaid when it was first staged last year. My son was only turning 4 then and he didn't particularly relish seeing an evil character like Crustacea, although he was more familiar with Ursula, the sea witch in the cartoon version. A year sure makes a big difference. This year and with my son expecting to be a kuya (big brother) soon (yes, that's what he told me exactly, "because I'm a kuya na), he bravely told me that he was now ready to watch the Little Mermaid, witch and all.

The saga continues. Ador, also known as Angelo Mawanay, chooses such an inappropriate time to go to confession. Somehow, I wonder why they couldn't just bring any priest to the Senate. Why did he have to schedule a meeting, a confession, a whatever with Cardinal Sin while still in detention with the Senate? And why was he able to leave the place? Why was he detained in the first place? Which brings us back to where we started.

I don't remember having fried rice which isn't the least bit greasy anywhere before. Yesterday, my family and I had dinner at Tianjinn, located at Unit C-12 Crossroad Arcade, Greenhills Shopping Center. The food was pretty good and reasonably priced too. Most of the items (except for the crab, of course) were in the P150 to P250 price range and would be good for 2-3 people.

I was sick and in bed yesterday. Special thanks then go to my hubby, Manuel, for giving you something to read even when I couldn't do any writing. I was nauseated and dizzy practically the whole time though I have to say that the bad feeling started even before I listened to the on-goings at the Senate. As I started to listen to the Senate investigation, though, it was downhill from there.

Ever since the Bangko Sentral named and fined 9 banks for reportedly violating rules on foreign exchange transactions, the peso has continuously gained strength. Good for us. I was listening to the radio (AM, of course) while stuck in traffic on the way home and I heard the commentator Jimmy Gil say that he remembered the time when the peso-dollar exchange rate was only P2:USD1. I can't remember that far back. The lowest I recall is a rate of P8:USD1.

Literally, "habeas corpus," I am told, means "you have the body." It has been more than a week since Senator Ping Lacson was first accused by Col. Vic Corpus of having amassed hundreds of millions of dollars through illegal means. More recently, news reports talked about Senator Lacson's links with "alleged drug lord," Kim Wong.

It's now past 10 and for a minute there, I really thought I wasn't going to write anything tonight. The writing part of my brain is almost half asleep as I am pooped from attending to a hundred and one concerns earlier in the day up to a few minutes ago. My son's sitter will be going home to the province for more than a week to attend to a family matter so tonight was filled with clarifications on schedules, to do's, and plans on how to get by in the next two weeks.

Somehow, today didn't feel quite like a usual Saturday. There was a parents' meeting at La Salle which took up the whole morning. Then, we had to rush to Shangri-la Plaza for Little Gym class. We heard mass at 6pm and tomorrow, we go for a haircut, attend a children's party, and visit Adi's grandparents. What a relaxed weekend!

Whew! There goes another work week. I'm sure most of you are smiling from ear to ear, looking forward to this coming weekend. Beginning to feel fretful about or bored with your job? What follows is a prayer I'd like to share with people who work. It was given to us by the chairman of our company and I guess, that's why I was brought here - to come across things like this and to meet really good friends who are either still working for us or are now working for other companies (some even in other countries), but still working hard nonetheless.

I was listening to AM radio on the way to work this morning when I chanced upon DZBB's Arnold Clavio and his very witty Filipino translation for money-laundering: "Hugas-dugas." My apologies to those who do not understand the language. I can't even think of how to translate it back to English and I also think that even if I discovered how, the essence would be lost. It would be something similar to explaining a joke.

Living in the Philippines can sometimes make one feel like a character in a tele-novela. Credit it perhaps to having been under Spanish rule before. We Filipinos do have a flair for drama. The Abu Sayyaf episode in Mindanao refuses to end. The First Gentleman still hasn't cleared his name in that bribe accusation. Newly-elected Senator Ping Lacson is now accused of having millions and millions of dollars stashed away abroad. I guess that's what happens when we elect "detergents" into office.

If your family is as typical as ours, most likely, you start to feel "weakened" as Sunday comes to an end. You tell, yourself, "Where did the weekend go?" My kid, for one, loves asking: "What day is it today? Is it a weekend? No school? No office?" All these with a real, bright sunshiny smile on his face. That is, if it happens to be a Saturday or a Sunday.

When I was younger, meaning I still consider myself young at 34, I enjoyed watching the show (yes, I used to watch TV too), Doogie Howser, M.D. I particularly liked that portion towards the end of the show, when Doogie would sit in front of his computer, and type out his thoughts for the day. He had something like an electronic diary.
