Picture this: a foreigner from an Asian country is complaining to a Filipino about how things are in his country -- the interest rate on housing loans is 3%, credit cards carry a rate of 18% -- how would the foreigner ever buy a house or why would he even use his credit cards at those rates? The Filipino, on the other hand, tells the other about how housing loan rates in our country are at more than 10% and how credit card companies charge annual rates of about 39% and up. [more]

July is still a rainy season month so when in the Philippines, always have an umbrella or raincoat ready at this time of the year. Warnings continue to go out against diseases like dengue, leptospirosis, etc., etc. It is also cough and colds season and some people may experience allergy-like symptoms (e.g. coughs, itchy/watery eyes) due to the changing weather or pollen in the air. Wherever I go for training, a common question that I hear among the participants (especially among the ladies, most of the time) is: "Where is it good to shop?" It does not matter whether you are in Manila, Kuala Lumpur, or Bangkok -- whatever free time there is, it will be used to shop. [more]

Doesn't it really feel like the SONA (State of the Nation Address) is in the air? PGMA has been making pronouncements left and right, much like a student cramming for the finals. Well, she will have to say something positive on Monday, right? [more]

I love food. I love eating. During our last trip for training, though, there was just so much food, I was up to my neck with whatever it was people were serving. I never imagined I would actually pass on some snacks eventually. [more]

During our latest training in Kuala Lumpur in June 2005, we stayed at the Westin Kuala Lumpur, located at the Bukit Bintang area. The Bukit Bintang area is centrally located, quite busy and lively, and one of our colleagues, described it as one of the hearts of the city. [more]

We caught the 12:40pm screening of Pinoy Blonde last Saturday at Robinsons Galleria. That was the first show and so, as is the practice in movie theaters, the first screening is preceded by the playing of the national anthem ("Bayang magiliw...") [more]

Pinoy Blonde. Pinoy Blah. Pinoy Blind. Pinoy Bland. I guess I should stick to Unitel Films by Mark Meilly. I caught Unitel's latest film in the theaters last Saturday, July 16 and I was not too happy with this Peque Gallaga movie. Baka naman hindi ko lang naintindihan. Anyway, the ad for the movie trumpets it as "Hindi typical na Pinoy movie." I guess I should be happy? [more]

CD nanaman? Oh please... As if our presently unfolding political mess were not enough to raise our blood pressures, here comes Chavit Singson with yet another CD -- this time involving ex-president Erap and his reported plan to have PGMA killed. There are also references to a General Nazareno and the elections, I think. [more]

It is quite irritating to see newspaper headlines (the Philippine Star, I think) and also to hear over the radio (DZBB care of Mike Enriquez) that the credit rating of the Philippines has been downgraded. Fitch and Standard & Poor's have maintained their respective ratings for the Philippines and only the outlook has changed. Saying therefore that the rating has been downgraded is inaccurate. [more]

Don't hold your breath -- as you wait for PGMA to resign -- you might turn blue in the face. From the little that I know of Gloria and from what I have learned in Psychology class years ago, am of the opinion that she will not step down. It's just not in her personality. [more]

Nothing like a long hospital stay for you to realize what a blessing it is just to be out of the hospital. Last June 30, 2005, was one year since we left St. Luke's for Ali's Kawasaki episode. I remembered the day with gratitude for good health -- especially now that Ali is busy with preschool. [more]

Hello viloria readers! Sorry for that relatively long lull -- I can assure you, I haven't personally taken up the task of looking for Garci. I have much better things to do... [more]
