I have always been partial to GMA 7 and DZBB for my news and public affairs programs. Somehow, I find their newscasters and reporters as less sensational and more likeable. On my way home from work, I usually tune in to the radio while stuck in traffic and I most often catch the show 24 Oras which is their early evening news program.

March heralds the start of summer here in our country. The days get hotter when you thought it was not possible. Kids rejoice as they take a break from school. When I was younger, I would just laze around the house during summer. I would read all of my brothers' old books stashed away in some boxes around our house. I learned to type with a typing book and our old typewriter. I would play. With the advent of all-day Cartoon Network and the Nick channels, summer life is not as simple. There's now an onslaught of all sorts of summer classes (e.g. painting, sports, performing arts - you name it, we have it) competing for parents' share of wallet. Parents, just wanting to keep their kids from vegetating in front of the TV the whole day, spend mega-bucks just to cope.

I turned a year older (well, never too old) sometime last week and despite it, being Holy Week, it was quite fun. I celebrated it with family at dinnertime and when families converge, we truly realize just how much there is to be thankful for.

The Catholic world observes Holy Week this week and starting Thursday till Sunday, there will be no work here in the Philippines. So, I shall be signing off from the web starting tomorrow -- hopefully taking enough time to reflect on the meaning of this season and also to rest. We should be back on the net by Monday, March 28.

You win some. You lose some. Such is the law of life. Whatever it is we may be doing, eventually, the law of averages comes up. Manny Pacquiao has been coming off a series of wins -- he has to lose sometime. Erik Morales previously lost to Barrera (whom Pacquiao had previously beaten, and badly) and his victory yesterday, was sweet.

It is summer (although the weather is quite strange, we actually have a typhoon in our midst?) and it is time to hit the pool and the beach. Time to invest in new swimsuits.Bright, vibrant colors really go with summer but darker shades typically make you look slimmer.

I have two very valuable books in my travel treasure trove. These are 100 Places With a Heart (Philippines) and the Best of Bohol and Cebu. These books help me plan out my vacations and regular visitors to this site have probably discovered that I live or work for vacations!

My brother, Manny, este, Mandy pala, is a big fan of Manny Pacquiao. Every time he watches live, the fight ends in a draw. My brother will again be watching the fight versus Erik Morales in Las Vegas this Saturday. Let's all hope that Manny Pacquiao wins this time. With the Bohol poisoning, the Abu jail incident, etc., etc., we all need a bit of good news for the Philippines.

It's summer in the Philippines and you know what that means? Vacation time. So aside from choosing which destination or resort to go to, make sure you have everything you need for for that trip you are planning.

It's the last day of my son Adi's Grade 2 classes and am so happy. It feels like liberation time. No more homework, no more quizzes -- well, at least for about 3 months. And then it's on to Grade 3.

This movie is perfect proof that you can't believe every review or everything you read. (This blog, included - so if you want to see the movie Million Dollar Baby and pass judgement on it yourself, go ahead...make Clint Eastwood's day...) Anyway, the movie's okay -- but still can't believe that it bagged the Oscars' Best Picture award. Does that mean I should stay away from the rest of the nominated movies if that's the best of the lot? Well, my parents did rave about Sideways...

And we thought scrub suits were only for doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel. We first came across Marla's Garbs for Tots in a bazaar last year. She makes scrub suits for kids ages 1-9. The scrubs come in cute colors and designs. Kids can use it for play, for school, and even for sleeping, if they like. Of course, adults and real doctors and nurses can order too. I remember when my daughter Ali was in the hospital, the nurses and doctors at St. Luke's would wear scrub suits featuring cartoon characters. It didn't really make much of a difference to Ali (well, she was really feeling bad) but the designs did cheer me up.
