My daughter Ali celebrated her birthday recently and we finally got to order one of Manila's 10 Best Desserts, Mrs. Yulo's Strawberry Shortcake. I have long heard of Mrs. Yulo of Forbes whom people say makes good prune cakes and of course, the one included in the Best Desserts listing -- strawberry shortcake. [more]

Every time news comes out about the latest rating reviews done by international rating agencies like Standard & Poor's, Moody's, or Fitch, I get irked by the inaccurate reporting that goes with the broadcasters and writers who bring us such news. Even if the result of the review just talks about a change in outlook, they usually say that the country's sovereign credit rating has been upgraded or downgraded. [more]

We stayed at the Mindanao Civic Center located in Tubod (this is the capital of the province), Lanao del Norte. Friendly staff at the hotel say that the hotel has been operating for a few years and that its sports facilities (stadium, gym, oval, swimming pool) were used for the Palarong Pambansa in 2003. In the case of the ABS-CBN TV show Wowowee, starring Willie Revillame, I guess the whole country is still stunned by the stampede that happened yesterday morning, killing 70 to 80 plus people (the counts vary based on which report you refer to), and injuring hundreds of others.
