Black Cocktail Dress

Does every female really need a little black dress in her wardrobe? Black is a formal color and it also makes you look slimmer.

For some affairs, though, like here in the Philippines, particularly if the party host is of Chinese descent, you may want to stay away from black as it is not seen as a very "happy color." A Chinese friend of mine says that a black skirt or slacks would be looked upon more kindly than a black top or blouse at a formal, evening party.

That being said, black for party or evening affair outfits, is quite safe. You are sure to look sleek, slim, and fashionable.

Off the rack or made-to-order? Off the rack may come out cheaper but be ready for the possibility that you will bump into someone with the very same dress. Can you take that? Made-to-order will be a little more pricey (particularly if you will go with the name designers) and will also take more effort -- from buying the garment, to choosing the design, to visiting the designer's shop -- but you are sure to get the look that you like and your dress will surely be unique.

So will you go for that little black cocktail dress? You can search the web for fashion resources or you could also opt for a happier color like red -- if you have the personality to pull it off.
