National Essay Writing Contest Deadline Moved to November 15, 2006

The National Essay Writing Contest jointly organized by the Philippine Graphic News Weekly Magazine and the Philippine Jaycees has moved its deadline from the original October 15, 2006 to November 15, 2006. The extension in deadline was done to give entries from the Visayas and Mindanao regions enough time for submission.

The contest is endorsed by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), the Department of Education (DEPED) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

There are three categories, namely: high school, college, and professional. The theme for the contest is: "The Brotherhood of Man Transcends the Sovereignty of Nations."

To join, participants must submit a 700- to 800-word essay revolving around the said theme. The entry must be submitted on short bond paper, using the Times New Roman or Arial font, size 12. You must not put your name on the entry itself. Essays should be submitted in five copies, enclosed in a short brown envelope and submitted to: The Board of Judges, Philippine Graphic-Philippine Jaycees National Essay Writing Contest, 3rd Floor Dominga III Bldg., De la Rosa corner Pasong Tamo, Makati City 1233.

You can get entry forms from the weekly issues of Philippine Graphic and the Monday issues of Business Mirror.

Please call 814 0134 in Metro Manila, Philippines, for more details and to clarify how your entries will be identified if they do not want your name on the entry itself. My guess, is you will have to submit your entry details in a separate envelope but please call and clarify just to be sure. Good luck!
