Ageing and Growing Old"How old do you want to be when you grow up?" Strange question, right? But have you given a thought to how long you would actually want to live? [an error occurred while processing this directive]The Bible itself says, "...Seventy years is all we have, eighty years if we are strong..." People usually retire from work at the age of 60 or 65 so how many years would you want to relax and rest? I've always wanted to grow really old, provided that I am healthy of course. Who wants to be old and not be able to do anything? I was at my uncle's 93rd birthday quite recently. At 93, he can walk quite well (no wheelchair, no cane) and is still physically healthy and mentally alert. I asked my cousin what her dad's secrets or habits were. These are what I found out: 1. He eats a banana after every meal. 2. He eats mostly vegetables, fish, and chicken. He eats beef sometimes but hardly any pork. 3. Nagwawalis siya oras oras. (He sweeps regularly and frequently.) Hmm...should I start on the above as early as now? If I can live to 100 and still travel, why not? Oh, by the way, my uncle even went to Bangkok on a trip last December 2005. So, it looks like it's a combination of diet and staying active and exerting physical effort. No harm in trying all of the above. Who knows, you and I might live to 105?
