Ang Panday: The Sine Serye

I must confess, I have not seen a single Panday movie. Starting tonight though, at 9pm, ABS-CBN will start showing its Ang Panday, a sine-serye, as they call it.

I will probably ask my 9-year old son to see it, if only to help him with his Filipino. The TV series stars Jericho Rosales and Heart Evangelista. Jericho Rosales should be fine for the role, being quite versatile, but Heart seems miscast, to me at least. Somehow she just does not blend into this kind of a story or role.

There seems to be a resurrection of popular, Philippine characters lately. Darna started it all, now comes Ang Panday, and I think the Metro film fest will also feature a remake of Zuma. Dyesebel and Pedro Penduko have been done in the past so what's next?

Anyway, we shall see whether this Ang Panday will even be half as big or popular as the late FPJ's Ang Panday or even Angel Locsin's Darna. Who knows, if Jericho plays his cards right, we might just see him years from now as a top presidential contender. Well, in Philippine politics, everything is possible. Sigaw ng bayan -- Echo for President ang kailangan. Just kidding. =)
