Christmas Gifts: Paskong Pilipino CD

Still at a loss on what to give yourself, friends, or relatives in the USA or wherever around the globe they may be this Christmas? You may want to lend your ears to this CD, which is not distributed in stores commercially.

Paskong Pilipino features 11 classic Filipino Christmas songs written and composed by musical greats like Levi Celerio, Felipe de Leon, Lucio San Pedro, among others. The songs are performed by Ray Sison, on flute, and Lionel Valdellon on guitar. The duo previously performed in an album/CD called Vespers.

The album makes for easy listening and the purely instrumental songs will surely help you relax amidst the stress of the holiday season. The cover of the CD features Ninay, a Philippine doll, made of authentic native fabrics, done by Patis Tesoro. The CD comes with the complete lyrics of each song - in both English and Filipino versions. This will then make a good gift even for those who do not know the native language but whom you would still like to introduce to good Filipino Christmas music.

My personal favorites in the album are the light and playful Gumising and Kumukutikutitap; the still relatively upbeat Kampana ng Simbahan and Noche Buena; the slower and more dramatic Payapang Daigdig and Himig Pasko; and the all-time Christmas favorite and staple Ang Pasko ay Sumapit, doubled with Pasko na naman.
