Ten Years is a Long Time

Ten years, by any measure, is a significant amount of time. That's longer than I've been married and longer than I've had kids too.

I started working in 1988. Wow, that's been fourteen years since. I'm a "teen employee." My first job was teaching at the University of the Philippines where I managed to finish my MBA and find a husband. After teaching for 4 years, I moved on to another job where I lasted two (or was it three?) weeks and finally to this present job of mine.

I've been with the credit rating business since 1992. This is where the 10 years come in. That's pretty long considering that I thought of quitting in the first week that I was here. I was still probably adjusting having come from the academe (land of summer vacations and free time when you're done with what you have to do) and now, having to be at the office from 8am to 5pm - sometimes even longer.

Well after a few confusing weeks, I survived. The job has managed to keep my interest as there are always new things to learn and new people to meet. There's always enough to do yet I have time for family and other personal activities. It has also given me the chance to meet some of my closest friends - with relationships continuing even as they leave the company or even the country.

This September 1, I say happy anniversary to me here at work. Ten years is indeed a long time. Not long enough though for a job that's not just a job - but a never-ending class in business and a good breeding ground for long-lasting friendships.
