Only the BoringIn the children's book, "Are We There Yet?" Zoe, a Sesame Street character is shown to be taking a pretty long car trip. In one portion, she exclaims: "I am bored, bored, bored." [an error occurred while processing this directive] My son Adi then copies her once in awhile by uttering the same line. Recently, I have told him that there are always things to do and that "only boring people get bored." Last Saturday, I was due for a visit to my OB. Adi wanted to come along so I tried to dissuade him by saying: "You'll only get bored." Adi's eyes lighted up: "What did you say, Mommy?" I realized my slip and so proceeded to change my statement. "I mean, you'll only get tired." "Why did you say that I would only get bored?" Adi asked, looking impish. I knew what he was trying to say. I then had to say: "Mommy made a mistake. Even mommies make mistakes, sometimes." There goes my perfect-mom cover. I've been found out.
